Change of use and extensions

This is a traditional style building located in the Green Belt outside of Welwyn, Hertfordshire. Prior to the 1950’s, the building was used as a small hospital for the local area. Since then, it has been converted into residential accommodation. We were appointed by the owner of the building in 2019 to look at developing the property further to maximise the potential for additional flats.

Due to the building’s location, we completed several different applications to add area onto the existing building at different stages. We then followed these up with one final application to bring them all together. Following many applications to the local authority, we obtained permission to add approximately twice as much floor area to the building and create four additional flats by completely reorganising the internal layout of the existing accommodation, providing better layouts throughout.

This project involved working directly with the planners at the local authority along with several specialist consultants including landscape designer, ecologists, land contamination and acoustic specialists. This collaboration contributed to achieving these attractive and well-proportioned spaces.

We were heavily involved in providing the construction drawings during the build while refining and tweaking the spaces to create better layouts as the project developed on site.

This project was completed in 2022 and we are pleased to see all units occupied.
