Town centre to retail residential conversion

The brief was to convert an existing retail unit in the heart of a town centre that was too big for current retail trends and convert it into 2 and 1 bed apartments.

The building was previously used as a home furnishing store, we had to keep its character and successfully designed around the major structural elements, one to maximise the possible floor space, but to also save on unnecessary costs on adjusting too much structure.

Once the business left the three-storey character building, we were appointed by the landlord to look at ideas to convert the first and second floors as well as loft space into residential accommodation. The ground floor space was to be kept for commercial use but sub-divided into smaller units.

Following a number of planning application submissions to the local authority, we obtained planning permission to convert the upper floors into eight flats with an additional two penthouse flats in the loft space.

Following a successful planning application, we were then instructed to provide the construction packages needed to successful build the scheme.

We are pleased that this important building has a new lease of life securing it for many years to come. The apartments are fully occupied as are the smaller retail units at ground level.
